Parcel-level Loss Formulas
Description
This gives the difference between the volumes measured on-board the vessel (after loading from the port) and the volumes already on-board (OBQ volumes i.e. before the load took place).
The difference % is a measure of difference between what the port says it has delivered and what was actually loaded on the vessel, expressed as a percentage of the Bill of Lading volumes.
Formulas
Load TCV Difference % = (Vessel Loaded TCV - BL TCV) * 100 / (BLTCV)
where:
Vessel Loaded TCV = TCV After Loading - OBQ (Total) Tanks to be Loaded
Description
This gives the difference between the volumes measured on-board the vessel (prior to discharging at the destination port) and the volumes remaining on-board (after the discharge).
The difference % is a measure of difference between what the vessel says it has delivered and what the port actually received, expressed as a percentage of the Outturn volumes
Formulas
Discharge TCV Difference % = (Outturn TCV - Vessel Discharged TCV) * 100 / (Outturn TCV)
where:
Vessel Discharged TCV = TCV Before Discharge - ROB from Loaded Tanks (Total)
Description
While the BL TCV is what the port says it has delivered, the Load VEF of the vessel is used to derive the volumes that may have been loaded from the port in theory (Theoretical Shore volumes).
This ship/shore difference is the % difference between the Theoretical Shore volume and the BL TCV volume, expressed as a percentage of the BL volumes.
Formulas
Load Theoretical Shore Diff % =(( (Vessel Loaded TCV / Load VEF) - BL TCV) * 100) / (BL TCV)
where:
Vessel Loaded TCV = TCV After Loading - OBQ (Total) Tanks to be Loaded
Description
While Outturn TCV is what the port says it has received, the Discharge VEF of the vessel is used to derive the volumes that may have been discharged to the port in theory (Theoretical Shore volumes).
This ship/shore difference is the % difference between the Theoretical Shore volume and the Outturn volume, expressed as a percentage of the Outturn volumes.
Formulas
Discharge Theoritical Shore Diff % = (( (Vessel Discharged TCV / Discharge VEF) - Outturn TCV) * 100) / (Outturn TCV)
where:
Vessel Discharged TCV = TCV Before Discharge - ROB from Loaded Tanks (Total)
Description
This checks for the % increase or decrease in the volume of Free Water between what was already on-board and what is measured after the completion of loading.
Formulas
Load FW Difference % = ((Received FW - OBQ (FW) Tanks to be loaded) * 100) / Received FW
where:
Received FW = TCV After Loading – GSV After Loading
Description
This checks for the % increase or decrease in the volume of Free Water between what was delivered to the Discharge port and what remained on-board after the discharge.
Formulas
Discharge ROB FW Difference % = ((Delivered FW - ROB from loaded tanks (FW)) * 100) / Delivered FW
where:
Delivered FW = TCV Before Discharge – GSV Before Discharge
Voyage-level Loss Formulas
Description

This gives the % difference between the total calculated volume of the cargo delivered from the loading port and that received by the discharge port, expressed as a percentage of the BL (load) volumes.
Formulas
Delivered TCV % = ((Outturn TCV - BL TCV) * 100) / BL TCV
Description
This gives the % difference between the total Outturn FW & SW at the destination port and the total BOL FW & SW at the load port, expressed as a percentage of the BOL FW & SW volumes.
Formulas
O/T-BOL FW & SW Diff % = ((O/T_FW+SW – BOL_FW+SW) * 100) / BOL_FW+SW
where:
O/T_FW+SW = Outturn TCV – Outturn NSV
BOL_FW+SW = BL TCV – BL NSV
Description
This gives the % difference between the net standard volume of the cargo delivered from the loading port and that received by the discharge port, expressed as a percentage of the BL (load) volumes.
Formulas
Delivered NSV % = ((Outturn NSV - BL NSV) * 100) / BL NSV
Description
This is representative of the 'In-Transit Difference' between the time the vessel sails of from the Load port till the time the vessel arrives at the Discharge port, expressed as a percentage of the volume it sailed with.
Formulas
Transit Diff. % TCV = ((TCV Before Discharge - TCV After Loading) * 100) / TCV After Loading
Description
This gives the % difference of the free water between the time vessel sails of from the Load port till the time the vessel arrives at the Discharge port, expressed as a percentage of the volume it sailed with.
Formulas
FW In-transit Diff. % = ((VOA FW – VOS FW) * 100 / (VOS FW))
where:
Vessel on Sailing (VOS) FW = TCV After Loading - GSV After Loading
Vessel On Arrival (VOA) FW = TCV Before Discharge - GSV Before Discharge
Description
This is the loss that occurs between the Load port and the Discharge port, taking into account OBQ and ROB values, expressed as a percentage of the original volumes loaded (BL volumes).
Formulas
Adjusted TCV Diff. % = Adjusted TCV Diff. * 100 / BL TCV
where:
Adjusted TCV Diff. = (Outturn TCV - BL TCV) - OBQ (Total) Tanks to be Loaded + ROB from Loaded Tanks (Total)
Description
This is the loss that occurs between the Load port and the Discharge port, taking into account OBQ and ROB values, expressed as a percentage of the original volumes loaded (BL volumes).
Formulas
Adjusted NSV Diff. % = Adjusted NSV Diff. * 100 / BL NSV
where:
