Inspection > Time Logs

A time log is a chronological record of the events that take place while a vessel is calling a port. The time log is used to calculate how much time a vessel stayed at a port and if any of that time is considered as delay.

For each parcel, the free time and demurrage charges are agreed upon by the vessel operator and the charter company and are documented in the charter party. If the vessel gets in and out of the port in a longer time allowed than the free time, the shipper is charged a penalty amount. The time log is the main source of information for the calculation of demurrage.

In Navarik Inspection, a time log is submitted for each parcel, as indicated in the nomination. A time log is not always required. When a nomination is sent, Navarik Inspection automatically creates a time log based on the nomination type and Time Log Required field. The inspector is then required to fill in the events for the time log for that parcel.

Number of Time Logs Per Parcel and Inspection Company

One time log is created per port per inspection company. If an inspection company is responsible for more than one parcel in the same port and in the same nomination, the inspection company only has one time log to fill out. If there are two parcels for the same port but for two different inspection companies, Navarik Inspection creates two time logs: one for each inspection company.

Cargo- and Port-Specific Events

A time log can have events for both the cargo and the port. Port-specific events are for the vessel while cargo-specific events are for the parcel. For example, you can use the cargo-specific events when the parcel discharge or load commences.
